Bozeman Commissioners -
I understand, trust me, what a difficult spot our police are in. But I am concerned with
reports that they are assisting the ICE agency while they are in town. They have
been patrolling and appear to be protecting the agents in our community. I'm
concerned about the level of distrust this will bring in our community with our LE.
ICE is not operating as a normal federal agency, and we all know it. Cooperating with
a federal agency during normal times is one thing, but doing it during times when this
federal agency is continually violating the constitutional rights of people in America is
another. It is well documented that they are chilling free speech, intimidating peoplewho speak out against them, detaining people without due process including people
here legally, etc... The administration doesn't deny this, they are actually quite proud
of their breaking of social normals. This is not the time to cooperate with them.
Please protect our community.
We have at least a hundred families in our community who have now lost their
primary breadwinner. The detained have been moved to Helena and then further
North. We know many of these people are held in deplorable conditions, not givendue process and manipulated into self deporting through threats. They are treated
worse than the animals brought to our local pound. The UN is now calling for an
investigation into the conditions our government is holding people in. it is a human
rights travesty and I want no part of it.
