Re: Laurel Meadows – Request for Administrative Waivers from the City of Bozeman Design
and Construction Standards
Dear Ms. Schultz,
The following is a request for Administrative Waivers from the City of Bozeman Design and
Construction Standards for the Laurel Meadows subdivision:
1. Chapter 7- Table 7.1.1: Length of Tangent at Intersection
2. Chapter 4- 4.1.1: Main Location Curvilinear Streets
Table 7.1.1: Length of Tangent at Intersections
The required minimum tangent length for local roads is 100 feet. The following intersection on the
proposed Street A are designed with a tangent length less than 100 feet.

Measurements are from the Point of Curvature (PC) to the back of curb on the intersecting road.
Justification for Waiver:
• No Impact to Public Safety: The proposed deviation will not compromise public safety.
Travel speeds on these local roads are low, and traffic volumes are minimal. All sight
vision triangle restrictions will be adhered to, ensuring safe visibility for all movements at
the intersections. The intersections will be designed with street lighting that meets City of
Bozeman Standards. Traffic on Street A will be stopped controlled at both intersections.
• Environmental Benefit: This layout reduces disturbance to the adjacent wetlands located
in the southwest corner of the property, minimizing environmental impacts while
maintaining functionality and maximizing available land to provide much-needed single-
family housing in the City.

• Operational Efficiency: The proposed tangent lengths will not negatively affect turning
movements, emergency access, or overall intersection performance.
Chapter 4: 4.1.1: Main Location Curvilinear Streets
We are requesting a deviation to Section 4.1.1 of the current design standards for maintaining
two feet of clearance from water mains to the edge of concrete gutters. Curb bulbs are
proposed at major intersections and for midblock crossings as traffic calming measures and to
increase pedestrian visibility.
In order to maintain required horizontal separation distances from sanitary sewer and storm
drainage mains, the water main is proposed to cross under the curb at various locations. We
propose to locate all valves at least two feet from the edge of the curb. Allowing this waiver will
help us simplify the utility design and eliminate the need to add additional bends and manholes
to water, sewer, and storm drain infrastructure.
We respectfully request approval of the waivers described above. Please let us know if
additional documentation, analysis, or exhibits are required to support this request. All designs
presented with the preliminary plat are subject to change and will be submitted to City
Engineering for further review with Stage 3, Final Infrastructure Drawings.
