Dear Commissioners,
Regarding the upcoming consent agenda item for the Opportunity Zones please be thoughtful
and fiscally conservative when it comes to OZ designation for developments. The BozemanSquare development, already planned, approved and in process, apparently does not need this
tax incentive. While the developers of that project should be commended for theircommitment to providing so many affordable units, they clearly do not need tax incentives.
My concern for the Commission, and for the City, are also the optics with giving more
handouts to developers who have access to robust financing. The Commission and the Cityshould be careful to manage the image (and reality) of fairness and sound financial
stewardship. Right now, a lot of folks believe that the Commission and City favors thedevelopment community over regular people. Many folks are also concerned that too many of
our tax dollars are flowing to already well-financed industries.
Please be careful with this vote and make sure there is a robust public discussion.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Emily Kelley MasonWestridge Drive, Bozeman
