To the City Commission:
Please consider the following questions as you discuss Opportunity
Zones in your next meeting.
- If Bozeman Square is already breaking ground in 2026 with 200
affordable units committed and leasing underway, why is OZ
designation necessary? - Why does neither application contain one
single binding affordability requirement or anti-displacement
mechanism? - Do these tracts genuinely meet the spirit of OZ 2.0's
tightened eligibility criteria, intended to target truly distressed
communities? - Why hasn't the community, particularly lower-income
residents, renters, and existing small business owners, been
meaningfully consulted? - The Idaho Pole Superfund site should be
considered as an OZ, with public input and with binding affordability
requirements.
The average worker and young families being priced out of Bozeman
deserve genuine solutions, not aspirational language and a federal tax
break for investors.
Thank you for considering.
