Dear Bozeman City Commission,
I am writfng in support of including a Disability Community Liaison in the upcoming budget
cycle. This was a recommendatfon and commitment adopted in the Belonging in Bozeman Plan
in December of 2023. It was a Priority #1 staff positfon for FY 2025-2026 that became delayed
while waitfng for the hire of your Belonging and Engagement Coordinator. You have filled the
Belonging and Engagement Coordinator role, and I look forward to watching how the Liaison
role will unfold in the coming months.
Because this positfon has been highly antfcipated and was unable to be implemented in the
tfmeline promised, it’s important for the sake of transparency and accountability to include this
positfon as a specific line item in the budget.
As always, I appreciate your contfnued and unwavering support of the disability community and
commend your leadership, both on commission and within your staff, for mirroring to the
community that the voices of people with disabilitfes matter and inclusion and belonging are a
real priority. Your words are backed by true, thoughtiul, actfon, which is rare.
Thank you,
Kristen Newman, former Disability Community Liaison on the Belonging in Bozeman Plan.
