People Power Partnership feature, event this Tuesday, and how to use our building forfree READ IN APP You read a lot in this space about how to support Montana’s disability community to embrace the power of our identities, culture, rights, and vote. Disability Rights Montana works across the state with a number of organizations that share a similar vision of community and using the power of community to shape our state in a way that works well for everyone. JUN 8 Meet Catalyst Montana One such partner organization I wanted to highlight today is Catalyst Montana. They uplift low-income and marginalized Montanans through community organizing, policy advocacy, research, and leadership development. They are leaders in helping communities across our state build collective power and create meaningful change on the issues most important to those communities. I bet you can see a lot of overlap between he community we serve and the community they serve and I bet you can see how our work compliments each other. I would encourage you to learn more about their organization and advocacy here: Catalyst MT website And if you are already impressed with what they have done and are doing, you can support what they will do by donating to them here: Donate to Catalyst MT One tool Catalyst uses to build and document community is art. I am a weaver so I love this, and I especially like a fiber project they are working on right now. They are currently going around the state building the second annual Sewn & Seen Trans Quit Project. The second annual Sewn & Seen Event will be held in Helena on Tuesday June 9th from 6 to 8pm here at our offices at 1022 Chestnut Street in Helena. Catalyst is providing food, drinks, and quit making supplies. Please note that just as Disability Rights Montana loves allies, we often have to make sure appropriate focus is placed on people with lived experience with disabilities as we are often more removed from microphones that amplify our Sewn & Seen coming to DRMT’soffices voices and rooms that hold power over systems that affect us, and this event is similar in that this year’s quilt is accepting submissions from transgender, non-binary, and Two-Spirit Montanans only. Cis allies, like myself, can show us to build community and show support, but impacted community will be centered at the event. I know there are disabled transgender, non-binary, and Two-Spirit members who receive this newsletter and I hope you know you belong here and I hope to see you at the event. And if you are a cis ally, you can share it with transgender, non- binary, and Two-Spirit people you know. Attendees should plan to create an art piece with personal meaning on an 8” by 8” piece of fabric (provided, or bring your own!) You don’t have to consider yourself an artist, have a lot of artistic experience, or think that you are ‘good at art’ to contribute meaningfully to this project. Your contribution matters and you belong here! RSVP at this link If you have any questions, you should feel free to email Han, Lead Organizer, Equality and Civic Engagement for Catalyst Montana, at han@catalystmt.org. I look forward to seeing folks here on Tuesday! Tuesday June 9th 6:00-8:00 pm 1022 Chestnut St Helena, MT 59601 Reserve DRMT’s building for yourcommunity event If you have a cool idea for building community, supporting you neighbors, strategize to transform oppressive systems, or just gathering to have some fun, you can reserve our building for free. You don’t have to be a statewide non- profit advocacy group like Catalyst, you could be a group of yarn spinners, some students looking for a spot to play D&D, or an individual coming from out of town to meet with lawmakers and simply want a small meeting room. Just fill out an online form letting us know what you need and we will follow up with you to iron out the details. DRMT building/room reservations In solidarity, David David Carlson, J.D.
