I am writing to express my concern about the proposed city charter rewrite.I am satisfied with my current neighborhood resident association and do not
want the City Commission to alter, combine or otherwise redefine
neighborhood boundaries.
The City’s current view of conflicts of interests is weak, so much so that
employees of organizations and companies the City contracts with and
gives grant money to sit on and steer what are supposed to be citizen
advisory boards.
Bozeman needs a city charter than can create a structure where Bozeman
residents are not shut out of the decision-making process and are given
advisory roles in name only.
Advisory boards should be able to add items to their own agendas and
initiate their own work plans versus the current model, whereby the City
Commission, via City staff, sets the priorities and controls agendas.
It appears to me that the although the City Commission has had more than
15 months to rewrite the charter, a lot of important details are being left to
the last couple of weeks. This causes me grave concern that my voice and
the voice of others will not be heard or have time to review and comment.
Please do not allow the current draft to be approved.
Sincerely,
Mike Weaver
