The Summer I Turned Political Let's turn the heat up this summer! READ IN APP First, I just want to give you one last reminder that we are holding a party at noon today, outside the AG’s office. Come celebrate living in the community instead of an institution like in the days before 504 was passed in 1973. Learn more here: https://disabilityrightsmt.org/504-day/ But this post is really about what we have coming up this summer in communities around our massive state. Are you ready to have your world views rocked off their foundation? Learn the history no one taught us in school, the history of our liberation, the history of our political power. Disabled Americans are erased from history books, absent from talking head commentary on the cable news, dismissed as MAY 4 objects of charity, and patted on the head as inspirational as struggle to survive on less than enough. Powerful people prefer it this way and it will stay that way as long as we are asking for favors, instead of demanding change. When we join forces with one another we are mighty, we are politically powerful, we have changed the course of America and will again. Come to a screening of the documentary Crip Camp in your local Montana community to learn about the rise of the disability community’s political power and participate in a conversation about how we can use the same kind of power to make Montana work better for people with disabilities. If you want to attend or to host a screening in your town, sign up here: Crip Camp summer tour If you are ready to start learning about attacks on our rights and what you can do to fight back, the Collective Disruption is hosting two online learning sessions for Montanans to find out what Montana’s government is doing to undermine section 504 regulations in the lawsuit it filed in Texas. Please register for one of these two trainings (they will cover the same info) to learn what you can do in the next round of this fight to preserve disability rights. Monday, May 11th 1:00pm Register for May 11 at 1:00pm Wednesday, May, 20th 6:00pm Register for May 20 at 6:00pm ASL AVAILABLE AT BOTH SESSIONS If you haven’t done so already, please let us know what issues are important to you by filling out this survey. Once we see what the disability community wants Coming up next week: Online 504Info Sessions Fill out the voter survey today answers to, we will put it all together in a survey for people running for office and share their answers with you to better inform your voting this fall.
