Sorry Jen,
I sent this during the meeting without having the "bandwidth" to write an actual note. I was
just struck by the fact that the Priority language focused on providing information to
residents, not on improving methods to share information that comes from residents (the
listening part of engaging with the community). One of the things I have found difficult as I
have been attending City Commission meetings is that I do not have an easy way to see what
other people are saying to commissioners. It seems that comments sent in to the email
address are filed, and often I am confounded by where comments might be filed and found.
Searching the system usually leads me astray rather than being useful. That is one of the
reasons I wrote before your meeting to thank you for prioritizing improving the online data
dashboards for community communication.
Joey spoke last night (if memory serves) that Commissioners are getting lots of comments and
information from a variety of people. I often wonder if I really am the outlier, and what the
other points of view are, or if there are others of similar opinion to my own. For me, it would
help to have an easier way to track down current comments.
I appreciate that as commissioners, you are constantly listening, and I thank you for that.
Sincerely, Mary Bateson
