Dear Mayor, Commissioners and City Manager,
Thank you for hearing me at open comments tonight. I felt like you were really listening.
There is so much I did not get to say about the Environmental Study that the Airport AuthorityConsultant did. It only met FAA requirements. Here is one example: When they studied
noise levels, they only measured it at the airport and recorded decibel levels for a 24 hourperiod. Then they averaged those levels (including quiet times) so that the decibel level only
showed a level equal to two people having a conversation! They never measured impact onlocal communities.
The reason they are only doing the minimum FAA requirements is so that they can get Federal
money for the expansion of the runways, rerouting the roads etc.
Once the expansion is completed the FAA then decides how much air traffic the airport willhold and then does all the scheduling. The airport has no say in what happens.
Even though the environmental study open comment period ends this Thursday, the local
government agencies will still have time to ask for an improved and more meaningful studyand an extended comment period from the public.
I fully expect when I comment on the study, I will then be answered that my comment does
not pertain to the confines of the study. But it will at least be recorded.
The consultant did tell me that there is a chance that if local government requests an expansionof the criteria and an extension of time, the Airport Authority may agree to it.
Perhaps it would be a good idea to get this on the agenda so that you can vote to ask both them
and the County to do so.
Action needs to take place prior to their next Board meeting on May 14, 2026, 2:00pm(thesecond Thursday of the month).
This is OUR airport and we deserve a say as to how it affects our community.
