I want to first say thank you to the commissioners for taking public comments before the commission hearing. I am writing you today to hopefully convince you to create a publichousing commission and for the city to start building its own affordable housing stock. The past few years have shown very clearly that despite the incredebly large vaccancy in newdevolpments not enough landlords are willing to lower their rents to a more reasonable price, and developers are not willing to build enough affordable housing to curb the housing crisishere in Bozeman. If the city truely wants to curb the affordability and housing crisis here in Bozeman, it needs to start building the housing itself. This doesn't have to include just rentalunits. Affordable houses in city limits are also desperately needed. If the city did this it could, with proper planning, eventually eliminate the housing crisis here in Bozeman. It would alsosignnificantly lower the cost of living for any resident living in one of those units, and allow for those who have been displaced out of the city due to rent prices to return to their hometown. On top of that, it would also encourage landlords to lower their rents to a more reasonable price. In short, a public housing commission would make Bozeman a moreaffordable and more prosperous city. I hope you consider this proposal.
