We’re writing in strong support of preserving meaningful neighborhood
representation in Bozeman as the Study Commission considers changes to
our local government structure.
Our neighborhood program and advisory boards have long provided a vital
link between residents and decision-makers. They ensure that the voices of
those most directly impacted by growth, development, and policy decisions
are heard. Weakening or eliminating these pathways risks concentrating
decision-making power and reducing transparency at a time when
community input is more important than ever.
The proposed charter changes from the Study Commission would
significantly alter this balance. Without clear protections for neighborhood
participation, we risk losing an important layer of accountability and local
insight. That is not a direction that reflects the collaborative and engaged
spirit of Bozeman.
There is an alternative. Proposed charter language that preserves and
strengthens opportunities for neighborhood voices offers a more balanced
path forward—one that maintains public trust while still allowing the city
to evolve.
We urge the Study Commission to adopt language that protects
neighborhood representation and ensures ongoing, meaningful public
involvement. We also encourage fellow residents to stay informed, attend
meetings, and make their voices heard during this process.
The future of Bozeman should be shaped with the community—not without
it.
Sincerely
Mike and Mary Moran
