•The same holds for generic emails you may be using like

www.bozemanmt.gov on April 27th, 2026.

Email address and Website Domain Changes
•Why are we doing this?
•Federal Government encourages adoption of .gov domains to enhance security, establish
trust, and ensure authenticity and they are increasingly required to access federal
cybersecurity grants and support
•.gov domains are restricted and you must be verified as a US based government entity to
get one.
•Reduce the risks of Phishing and impersonation
•Reduce citizen confusion and concern about whether our website is a real government site
or not.
•Reduce citizen concerns about whether emails the City sends are coming from a private
entity or an actual government organization
•Most of our peer cities/counties are also doing this and seem to be following a similar
format as well. gallatinmt.gov, belgrademt.gov, billingsmt.gov

Email address and Website Domain Changes
•What citizens need to know as these changes go into effect.
•The old City of Bozeman emails will continue to work for at least one year and
the City will still receive your emails if sent to the old address during that time. I
strongly encourage citizens to change any city emails you have been using to
the new format as soon as possible.
•The navigation on the City website is not changing.
•If you have pages on the current City website bookmarked, those bookmarks
should still work when the domain name changes for at least a year. In the
event that they don’t work, navigate to the new URL at www.bozemanmt.gov and
go to the page you had previously bookmarked and update your bookmark.
