I am writing to share my strong opposition to the Fowler Housing Development proposalbetween Oak and Annie Streets. I have lived on Buckrake Avenue for nearly ten years, and the
prospect of eighty-four units squeezed onto a narrow 150-foot wide parcel is functionaloverdevelopment. The City’s 2017 purchase agreement committed to preserving our existing
trees and irrigation ditch, yet this high-density plan threatens the very green spaces andwildlife corridors that make our neighborhood healthy and livable. With buildings reaching
five stories, this project creates an inappropriate transition to the adjacent single-familybackyards. The lack of a roadway buffer and the decision to route 168 cars through residential
streets like Farmall and Caterpillar—rather than Fowler itself—is a recipe for congestion andaccidents. As someone who bikes and walks through this area daily, I find the parking ratio of
1.67 completely inadequate; overflow will inevitably clog our narrow streets. Furthermore, theprojected unit prices of upwards of $650,000 do not constitute affordable housing. I am
professionally concerned about the negative impact on our property values and the tax burdenof new infrastructure. The City Commission agreed to a consensus-based process with our
HOA, and moving forward with this density before that process concludes is a breach ofpublic trust. I formally request a full environmental and traffic impact study before any further
action is taken on this development.
