Subject: Public Comment on Fowler Avenue Housing Development
I am writing to share my significant concerns regarding the proposed Fowler Housing Developmentbetween Oak and Annie Streets. Having lived in this neighborhood for more than ten years, I haveseen how much we value our quiet, low-density character. The plan to shoehorn 84 units into anarrow 150-foot strip of land is simply inappropriate. With building heights reaching five stories
directly against the backyards of my neighbors, this project feels entirely out of scale.
The logistical plan is equally troubling. Routing traffic from 168 vehicles through residential streetslike Farmall and Caterpillar, rather than providing access from Fowler Avenue itself, will create a
nightmare for pedestrian and cyclist safety. My children walk these routes daily, and the thought ofsuch a massive increase in volume on narrow residential roads is frightening. This development alsoappears to violate the 2017 purchase agreement to preserve our existing trees and open spaces.
We were promised a consensus-based engagement process starting in 2026, and moving forwardwith zoning actions now feels like an attempt to undermine that commitment. These units, priced upto $650,000, do not provide the affordable housing Bozeman needs; instead, they bring infrastructurestrain and a loss of community livability. I urge the City Commission to pause and require a full
environmental and traffic impact study. We need a development that mirrors the Bridger Viewmodel, with lower density and meaningful greenspace, rather than this over-scaled proposal thatthreatens our neighborhood’s future.
