Subject: Public Comment on Fowler Avenue Housing Development
I am writing to the City Commission to voice my formal protest against
the current Fowler Housing Development proposal. Living near this parcel
for more than two decades, I have watched Bozeman change,but the scale
of this project feels like an affront to the neighbors who have invested
their lives here. The plan to cram eighty-four units into a narrow strip
of land right against eighteen of our backyards is simply not
functional. These four and five-story buildings will tower over us,
destroying the sense of community and privacy we have cherished for
twenty years.
The logistical flaws are just as worrying as the density. Routing nearly
170 vehicles through residential streets like Farmall and
Caterpillar—which were never designed for this volume—is a recipe for
gridlock and accidents. It is frustrated to see the city bypass the
arterial access of Fowler Avenue itself. Furthermore,the lack of
transparency and the rushed timeline of this process have left many of
us feeling ignored despite the Commission's promise of a consensus-based
engagement. We are also being asked to shoulder the long-term tax
implications for new infrastructure that exclusively benefits a
development that isn't even truly affordable. I ask that you honor the
2017 commitment to preserve our open spaces and limit this project to a
density that matches the existing Harvest Creek homes. Please do not
undermine the mediation process by fast-tracking a design that is so
clearly incompatible with our neighborhood.
