I am writing to the Community Development Board and City Commission to voice my strong opposition to the
proposed R-B zoning for the Hanson Lane annexation, Application 25775. Having lived at 3190 Rose Street forover twenty years, I have seen our neighborhood grow, but this proposal is a bridge too far. Attempting to shoehornfive-story, mixed-use buildings into an area defined by single-family homes is a clear case of spot zoning thatignores the established character of Harvest Creek. The intensity of R-B zoning is entirely inappropriate for thislocation, which lacks the transit infrastructure and nearby services to support such density.
My concerns are rooted in the long-term safety and livability of our community. By extending Annie Street as athrough street without guaranteed traffic calming, the city is creating a dangerous situation for the children walkingto Emily Dickinson Elementary. Furthermore, granting R-B status here sets a terrifying precedent for the entireFowler Avenue corridor. We are not an urban core; we are a residential neighborhood. R-A zoning would satisfy thecity’s growth goals while remaining consistent with the surrounding density of six units per acre. I urge the city tolisten to the residents who have invested decades into this area and reject this high-intensity rezoning in favor of aplan that actually respects its neighbors.
