Dear Commissioners,
I want to express my support for safe streets for all residents. As a lifetime cyclist withover 100k miles in the city limits of Bozeman, I am seeing improvements as well as setbacks.
Many new bike lanes, bike paths, and signage, roundabouts, etc. But also seasonal andpermanent obstacles to cyclists, forcing us into the car lane.
Take the new curb protrusion on N Black and Mendenhall. The bike lane is now terminated
by a new, elaborate storm drain installation which could have been placed in the blvd, nowthere is a curb right where a cyclist would benefit from approaching the stop sign going north
on Black!
Another location is the trail crossing at S Church at Pete's Hill - every spring there areplanters and posts placed in the bike lane that are obstacles to cyclists. This is similar to the
curb bulbs placed on S Willson at College, completely eliminating the bike lane. I realize thisis to enhance pedestrian safety, but I feel it's not fair to risk the lives of cyclists in order tomake it safer for a different mode of transportation. There needs to be a way to make itsafer for everyone, not just people on foot.
One thing that would truly make transporting ourselves around town is traffic enforcement. I
support much stricter enforcement of careless driving of any nature.
Another big request is to enforce the decibel limits for the mysterious desire by a few peopleto go out and make their cars and motorcycles as noisy as possible. Street racing motorbikes
and cars are destroying the peace and quiet, often extending for many miles. These people areclearly reaching very high rates of speed as well as making noise and I support extracting as
much revenue from fines as possible from this sector of our population.
Thank you for considering my input.Sincerely,
Paul House
