Hello Bozeman Commission,
I'm submitting this comment regarding the speed limit on Durston St between 7th Ave & 19th Ave.
My wife and I recently purchased our first home in Bozeman located near 10th Ave & Durston. We have spent thepast 7 years living just east on Peach Street, near Wild Crumb.
After spending some time at the new house and learning the new commuting paths, I'm shocked at how fast driversspeed down Durston in both directions. On the east side of 7th is a 15 mph school zone, yet just west the speed limitdoubles despite passing a middle school and high school. I have noticed this creates a dangerous precedent ofdrivers speeding east to catch the green or yellow light at 7th, naturally bringing faster moving traffic into the 15mph school zone. With new student drivers around the high school and more traffic from the upcoming housingdevelopments on 7th, it seems like a good time to start reducing traffic speed in that zone and promoting safe bikingand walking to the middle school, high school, and toward downtown.
I urge the City Commission and Public Works to consider extending the school zone across 7th and past the middleschool. I was inspired to submit this comment by the recent Guest column in the Chronicle by Mark Egge.
I have attached a sketch for reference.
Thank you for your time, Benjamin Landry
