I am writing to share my deep concerns regarding the Fowler Housing Development proposed between Oak and Annie Streets. As a homeowner who has lived in this immediate area for almost two decades, I am worried about the impact of cramming eighty-four units onto a narrow parcel that simply cannot support that density. The current plan places high-rise buildings and parking lots directly against the backyards of my neighbors with no meaningful buffer. Even more concerning is the traffic plan, which routes over a hundred cars through residential streets like Farmall and Caterpillar instead of using Fowler Avenue itself. These small roads were never designed for that kind of volume, and adding this many vehicles creates a significant safety risk for the many children who walk and bike to the nearby school. Furthermore, the price points being discussed are not truly affordable for Bozeman families, yet the neighborhood is being asked to accept extreme density that ignores the 2017 commitment to preserve our open spaces and trees. The City Commission recently agreed to a consensus-based process with our HOA, and I believe moving forward with high-density zoning before that process is finished undermines the trust of the community. Our schools are already over capacity, and our intersections are becoming increasingly dangerous. I urge you to scale back this project to a lower density, single-family or duplex model that respects the existing neighborhood and keeps our resident children safe from increased traffic congestion.
