According to the March5 update on the project website, “We remain in the exploratory phase, focused on listening to concerns, perspectives, and ideas from individuals representing a range of communityinterests.” (https://engage.bozeman.net/fowlerhousing) Given that statement, it is unclear why the City appears to be moving forward with zoning actions at this stage. From a resident’s perspective, this gives the impression that communityinput was gathered simply to satisfy a procedural requirement, rather than to meaningfully inform decisions. I would also appreciate clarification on how the City defines “consensus” in this context. Many residents feel that their concerns have not been substantively addressed, particularlygiven the potential impacts on existing neighbors. This project borders 21 backyard neighbors and another 20 on New Holland, warrantingcareful consideration of R-1 interfaces. Unlike other developments separated by roads (e.g., Baxter Ave and Harper Puckett near Baxter Meadows), this proposal abuts single-familyhomes—many of which are one-story, approximately 1,600 sq. ft. residences. The compatibility issues here are significant and deserve more deliberate engagement. Engagement is essential for building trust and achieving true consensus. We have yet to hear any response from the Consensus talks: what was learned, what the city needs to prioritize, and how to reach consensus. I encourage the City to continue engaging with residents transparently and continuously as this project evolves. I understand the city needs to zone for the road, but R-B is extremely inappropriate.
