From personal experience on a daily basis on Graf St between S. 3rd and 11th Avenues:
This small residential neighborhood, conveniently located between Morningstar Elementary
and Sacagewea Middle School, is a stretch of road where the 25 mph speed limit is regularlyignored.
Westbound drivers negotiate the roundabout at 3rd and Graf and accelerate to 35/40 mph
through a toddler-packed neighborhood. The walk to the mailbox is a suicide mission, especially in the winter months. I've had cars pass me on the double yellow lines as I slow up
to turn into my street.
I understand that the state legislature found red-light and speed-camera ticketingunconstitutional. (Apparently a legislator was caught on camera with a woman other than his
wife.) Privacy rights trump safety?
People tell me that those cameras don't work in snow, etc. But they would pay for themselvesin speeding ticket receipts in fair weather and create an atmosphere of respect for the posted
limits.
Thank you for your work towards a safer community!
