Hello, I am emailing to voice my concerns and frustration with the recent changes in zoning that have affected the short term rental that my wife and I operate. We are a Type 2A rental, the house we rent is our home. I would like to tell you al title bit about us and how this recent change is very unfair. My wife has lived in Bozeman her entire life, volunteers on Gallatin Country Search and Rescue, is a ski patroller at Bridger Bowl, and is a wildland firefighter in the summer. I am a wildland firefighter year round for the US Forest Service. We both work in public service and know what it means to be active members of a community and give back. We are regular people who are active participants in the community. We are small business owners and rely on the income that is generated from renting our home as a short term rental. The zoning change is incredibly unfair to people like us, saying we can not operate our business with zero warning has left me feeling betrayed by the community I love and my wife has served for her entire adult life. Would the city change the zoning where a small restaurant operates with zero warning and tell them they can no longer operate even though they are in compliance? I don’t think they would, and if they would shame on the elected officials who made that decision. I am asking for a grandfather clause to allow all Type 2 short term rentals to remain active regardless of the zoning changes that took place this winter. We are not wealthy millionaires who are contributing to a ”housing crisis”, which in the opinion of the Bozeman Daily Chronicle does not exist. We live here and are active members of the community. Thank you for your time. Chris Hericks 406-579-5651
