I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed Hanson Lane annexation and R-
B rezoning (Application 25775). As a homeowner on Lily Drive, I am deeply concerned aboutthe spot zoning of a 45-foot, 5-story R-B development directly adjacent to our established
single-family neighborhood, which consists primarily of R-1/R-2 homes with much lowerdensities. This proposal flies in the face of the existing development pattern and frankly, it
feels like an attempt to shoehorn an inappropriate level of density into our community.
The argument that R-B zoning is justified by the Community Plan's Urban Neighborhooddesignation simply doesn't hold water here. R-A zoning, which allows for up to 6 units per
acre, would more than satisfy that designation while remaining consistent with ourneighborhood's character. Furthermore, this area completely lacks the transit and services
typically needed to support R-B intensity. The closest shopping is over a mile away, andreliable public transit is nonexistent. Extending Annie Street as a through-street towards Emily
Dickinson Elementary without crucial traffic calming measures is another major red flag. Mychildren attend that school, and we use these roads daily; the increase in traffic and potential
for an "unobstructed raceway" poses a direct and unacceptable safety hazard to our kids andall pedestrians and cyclists in the area. This precedent for R-B zoning along Fowler Avenue
would fundamentally alter our quality of life and create an unsafe environment for ourfamilies.
