To the Community Development Board and City Commission, I am writing to express my
strong opposition to the proposed R-B rezoning of the Hanson Lane (Annie Street) parcel,Application 25775. As a homeowner who has lived near this area for over a decade, I am
deeply concerned about the spot zoning nature of this proposal. Placing R-B zoning, whichallows for buildings up to 45 feet and 5 stories, directly adjacent to our established single-
family R-1/R-2 homes is completely inappropriate. The prevailing density here is much lower, consistent with R-A zoning, which would be a far more suitable fit for the area’s character and
the Community Plan’s Urban Neighborhood designation.
Furthermore, this area simply lacks the infrastructure to support such high density. There is noreliable public transit, and the closest shopping and services are over a mile away – a 30-
minute walk each way, which is simply unrealistic for most families. The plan to extend AnnieStreet as a through street towards Emily Dickinson Elementary without proper traffic calming
is another serious concern. My children attend that school and frequently use these roads; Iwalk and bike through here regularly myself. This extension, if not carefully managed, will
create a dangerous raceway, directly jeopardizing pedestrian and cyclist safety. Thisannexation needs careful consideration, and I formally request a comprehensive environmental
and traffic impact study before any vote. I also ask for an extension of the public commentperiod to ensure all community voices are heard on such a significant change. Approving R-B
here sets a dangerous precedent for future high-density rezoning along Fowler, and thisdecision should not undermine the city's agreed-upon consensus process for the broader
Fowler corridor.
