I am writing to express my strong opposition to Application 25775, the proposed annexation and R-B
rezoning of the Hanson Lane parcel. As a homeowner at 3233 Oliver St and a civically engaged resident
who regularly engages city commission meetings, I am deeply concerned by this proposal. Placing R-B
zoning, which allows for buildings up to 45 feet and 5 stories, directly adjacent to our established R-1 and
R-2 single-family homes is nothing short of spot zoning. This completely disregards the existing
residential character of our neighborhood and sets a dangerous precedent for future high-density
rezoning along Fowler Avenue from Durston to Oak. The Community Plan's Urban Neighborhood
designation can be met with R-A zoning; R-B is a gross overreach for an area with no reliable public
transit or nearby amenities.
Furthermore, the extension of Annie Street as a through street towards Emily Dickinson Elementary
without adequate traffic calming measures is a serious safety hazard. My children attend a nearby school
and use these roads daily, as do I when I walk or bike through this area. Increased traffic congestion and
dangerous intersections are unacceptable. The potential for this decision to undermine the agreed-upon
consensus process for the adjacent Fowler Housing Development is also troubling. I formally request an
extension of the public comment period to allow more thorough community input and a comprehensive
traffic impact study before any vote. The long-term livability and safety of our community depend on
thoughtful, appropriate development, not rushed, out-of-scale projects.
