Dear Mayor Morrison, Deputy Mayor Fischer, and City Commissioners:
Please vote in support of the Bikefill Community Bike Park (Bikefill) and Bikefill Park Master
Plan. Bikefill is a unique collaboration among the City's Parks and Recreation Department,
Gallatin Valley Land Trust, and Southwest Montana Mountain Bike Association, to create a
mountain bike park in our community, with bike specific trails and features to serve a broad range
of ages, abilities, and riding styles on an underutilized 70-acre parcel next to Snowfill Recreation
Area, the City's most popular dog park. Together, Snowfill and Bikefill will result in the largest
municipal park unit in the Gallatin Valley.
Bikefill aims to address gaps in the community’s cycling infrastructure by building a world-class
bike park accessible to all ages and abilities. The design and construction team is highly skilled
and Montana-based, and trails will comply with best practices outlined in the 2023 Bozeman Parks,
Recreation & Active Transportation Plan and the Unified Development Code, while preserving
and enhancing the natural environment of the Bikefill site, in particular Churn Creek and existing
wetlands. Approximately 17 acres (about a quarter) of the project area will be conserved (not
developed with trails) to protect wildlife habitat and clean water. Just over 5 acres is native
grassland vegetation contiguous with the Churn Creek, which creates a 200 foot plus buffer area
along the Creek to support sensitive vegetation and wildlife habitat.
Public engagement garnered over 1,000 survey responses and over 800 generous donors have
contributed to Bikefill thus far. In addition, there have been four public engagement sessions, as
well as significant outreach and support from the community who recognize the benefits of having
a local mountain bike park. Additional details regarding the engagement process and results, trails
and design details, future maintenance, among others specifics are addressed in the comprehensive
Bikefill Community Bike Park Parks Master Plan.
The City’s Urban Parks and Forestry Board unanimously recommended that City Commissions
approve the Bikefill Master Plan at its March 26, 2026 meeting. Please support this unique
recreational opportunity sure to be enjoyed by a broad range of community members and visitors
alike.
