Richard Nixon, in the face of Vietnam War protests, claimed that he was supported by the “great silent majority “.
This of course was untrue. For you to discount those who comment on your actions concerning especially the
NCOD, as not representative of the community as a whole, is employing a similar illegitimate defense. By this logic
you could claim that unless you heard from 27000 folks, the (silent) majority was with you.
As you tear down old neighborhoods to be replaced with unaffordable monolithic structures, rationalized as
necessary to provide the affordable housing badly needed by our community, I am also reminded of the statement
from the Vietnam War era, perhaps apocryphal, that “we had to destroy the village to save it “.
