Hello,
I'd like to submit a public comment in support of approval of the Bikefill Park Master Plan onthe Parks Board agenda for 3/26.
The Bikefill park is going to be such an asset to our community. I am particularly excited
about the care that the design team has taken to plan a variety of trails and features that willmake this a hub for riders of all ages, abilities, and skill levels. It will be a place where
someone can try biking for the first time and progress up the features as their skills develop.Alongside them, advanced riders will be able to work on their skills. That means families can
go bike together and there will be an area for everyone. Bozeman has a strong bikingcommunity, and Bikefill will make that biking community more accessible for kids and adults
alike.
In addition, I'd like to highlight the design team's attention to the wildlife habitat and natural
areas of the park. The team has worked to maximize trails and trail amenities, while still
conserving 17 acres (about a quarter) of the project area to protect wildlife habitat and clean
water along Churn Creek. Plus, plans to re-plant areas throughout the park will help
rehabilitate the denuded soil. With Bikefill, the 66-acre area that is currently bare subsoil
between landfills will become a thriving place for nature and people alike.
Finally, I want to note the robust public engagement (~1,000 survey responses, 4 public
engagement sessions) and the demonstrated enthusiasm of our community for this project.
GVLT, SWMMBA, and the whole team have taken care at every step of the process to ensure
the park reflects what Bozeman's residents actually want. I personally am stoked to finally
have a place where I can put my very beginner biking skills into practice and develop my
technique alongside my more advanced biker friends. I encourage the Parks Board to
approve the Bikefill Park Master Plan.
Thank you,
Finn C
