To the City Commission and Transportation Board,
I'd like to highlight an article I saw today describing a dramatic (250%)increase in biking in Cambridge over the last two decades. The secret?
Building a connected network of high quality (see: AAA - Appropriate for
All Ages and Abilities) of separated bike lanes and paths.
The short article is here and I'd encourage you to skim it:
https://mass.streetsblog.org/2026/03/10/city-of-cambridge-reports-
better-bike-lanes-led-to-surge-in-bike-traffic
Not only has the number of users significantly increased as Cambridge has
invested in building a network of high quality bike lanes, but this year's
report also finds a downward trend in the number of bike crashes (eventhough more people are biking) and fewer people riding on sidewalks.
It is entirely possible for Bozeman to become a city where many residents
choose to bike (improving their physical health) rather than drive (cloggingour streets and degrading our environmental quality). The playbook is
shockingly simple: build safe infrastructure that connects to desired
destinations and people will use it!
Thanks for your consideration,
