READ IN APP A couple weeks ago, I shared some big news: Disability Rights Montana is growing. We’re bringing on three new teammates, including two civil rights attorneys who will help lead the next chapter of disability justice in this state. Today, I want to speak directly to lawyers, even those who might not think this call includes them, but it absolutely does. Because if you’re a Montana lawyer with 0-5 years experience (or a 3L about to become one) who cares about justice, community, and building something meaningful with your career… then the video above and the job posting below are for you. Civil Rights Attorney Job Posting This is a moment for lawyers who want their skills to matter. I recorded this video because I personally know how meaningful it is to put your energy into legal work that changes real lives. I’ve lived it. As a disabled lawyer, MAR 13 A Message to Montana Lawyers & FutureLawyers I’ve spent my entire career fighting for the civil rights of people with disabilities. And here’s the thing a lot of folks don’t realize: When you fight for civil rights in the disability community, you fight for civil rights for everyone. Disability touches every family, every community, every part of Montana. This isn’t niche work. This is justice work. And right now, you have the chance to join it. Apply now! At DRM, our attorneys do the kind of work most law students dream about when they imagined themselves making a difference: Systemic advocacy that sets precedent and changes laws, policies, and state systems Individual representation for people who’ve been abused, neglected, or denied their rights Investigations inside institutions and settings hidden from public view, where only we have federally mandated authority to go Emergency intervention when someone is in danger Long‑term reform that helps people stay out of institutions in the first place You won’t just read about civil rights, you will practice them, you will advance them. And the best part: You don’t need to be an expert yet. Why These Attorney Positions Matter We will train you. Our director of advocacy will train you. Our senior attorney will train you. I’ll train you. If you have the desire and you’ve earned your JD, we can get you up and running. That pipeline doesn’t really exist in Montana. So we’re building one. Montana is at a crossroads. Our disability community is growing stronger, more organized, and more visible. Our systems are under scrutiny. Our institutions, from schools to hospitals to correctional facilities, are all facing both crises and opportunities for improvement. And we need lawyers who believe in this place enough to shape its future. If you’re someone who wants: a meaningful legal career deep community connection work that makes Montana better a chance to build the civil rights pipeline this state has been missing Then this job is absolutely for you. You’re not alone. Maybe your current role pays the bills, but doesn’t feed the part of you that went to law school for something deeper. Maybe you’re a 3L who wants impact, not prestige.
