Dear Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Commissioners, First: I am writing to request that the City include a community survey, incorporating clear visual comparisons, as part of the public engagement process for the NeighborhoodConservation Overlay District. Visual examples—such as the comparative courthouse images used by the National Civic ArtSociety—allow residents to respond to specific design characteristics in a way that written descriptions alone cannot. Most people know immediately what they find appropriate orinappropriate for their neighborhood when they see it, but struggle to express those preferences without reference points. Including a survey with multiple side‑by‑side images representing different architectural approaches, materials and details, would give the public a more accessible way tocommunicate what they value. It would also provide the City with more reliable, representative feedback during this important planning process. This could happen throughthe Engagement page and the Inter Neighborhood Council outreach, as well as other means. Second: Would you consider an amendment to the Goals of the engagement plan on page 1, so that the second bullet point reads thus: Address Bozeman's community historical character, local conditions and priorities. Thank you for considering these requests. Surveys have proven to be a great way to strengthen public involvement and help ensure the built environment reflects the character thecommunity wants to preserve.
