Do you know that the City of Bozeman once had a full time neighborhood coordinator and a full time well qualified
historic preservation officer? This resulted in the preservation of our beautiful downtown and our wonderful old
neighborhoods. No one could claim that these commitments in any way impaired economic development. In fact,
the opposite is true.
It is claimed by some that the effort to create accessible affordable housing is impaired by these long standing
commitments to community character. One merely needs to consider the universal shortage of such housing in
communities everywhere, including those communities that made no efforts to maintain their cultural and physical
appeal, to realize that the problem is minimally related, if at all to our long standing efforts to preserve our heritage.
Your stated goal to preserve Bozeman’s heritage, neighborhoods, and natural environment , is merely lip service
when the commitment consists of a part time neighborhood coordinator and a vacant preservation officer.
Please stop this NCOD engagement process until you can do it with appropriate staffing and a commitment to do it
right.
