February 26, 2026; 10:25 a.m. (Please place the following public comment in the Urban Parks and Forestry Board folder and distribute to all UPF members in time for their meeting tonight. Thank you). Dear Mitch Overton, Director of Forestry, Parks and Recreation, and Cemetery: I am writing as an individual Bozeman resident to comment on Agenda Item F.2 - Bozeman Urban Forest Management Plan (as follows): I am writing to express my support for Bozeman's UFMP update to be framed as an Urban Forest Management Plan as opposed to an Urban Forestry Management Plan. The difference between these two types of plans is subtle but important: An Urban Forest Management Plan is a wholistic, land-stewardship approach that includes all public trees and all private trees and that focuses on the ecological function of urban forests and thenon-consumptive ecosystem services urban forests provide to communities as a whole. In contrast, an Urban Forestry Management Plan focuses on the operational, technical, andday-to-day management of trees by municipal departments. In short, an Urban Forest Management Plan provides a long-term vision while the forestry component of such a plan acts as a vital, operational rulebook to help reach thatvision. Thank you for the opportunity to comment. Sincerely, Daniel Carty 213 N. 3rd Ave.Bozeman, MT 59715 cc: City Forester Alex Nordquest and City Commission Liaison Alison Sweeney
