I am one of the few true locals left in this town. I have grown up watching it change. Some for the good and some for the bad. I grew up able to feel safe riding my bike around with my friends, and now as a parent in this changed town my feelings for that are very different from what I experienced growing up. I understand that with a town growing that means change. However, I feel very strongly that the city is not keeping up with safety standards at the same rate that the city is growing. This town loves to be outdoors. Many people are walking or riding bikes 24/7/365. With more and more cars on the roads this also means more and more people choosing alternative ways of getting around like walking or biking. With a town this busy and large there is absolutely NO REASON to have any speed limits over 25 MPH especially near parks or schools! The city has set up very nice trail systems within the city limits yet the roads that you have to cross to use them have high speed limits and are very dangerous! The stretch of Oak where the most recent accident happened drivers are consistently speeding. It also seems to be a hot spot for night racing. I live in this area and drive it frequently and I am repeatedly being passed or tailgated. I also can hear the night racing almost every night. The speeding on the high traffic roads have made it so I have had to increase rules to my children thatthey are not allowed to cross the streets anymore to get to the parks. What is the point in having theparks if it is too dangerous for our children to access them. I have seen way too many people almost gethit by wreck less drivers and now someone has lost their life. I urge you to install more blinking light crosswalks all over town but especially on larger roads that are high traffic areas like Oak. I urge you to install more blinking light crosswalks near all city trails, parks and schools. I urge you to allocate resources and traffic patrol to all areas of town that are near schools and parks. I urge you to allocate resources and traffic patrol to parts of town that are longer stretches of road and higher speed limits as these locations seem to be an area where drivers tend to speed. Please help keep this town a happy and safe place for everyone to enjoy. Please help to stop tragedieslike the most recent event. Sincerely, Jessie Miller
