Dear Community Development Director:
I support the Bozeman Tree Coalition's response to Demolition Application #25667 requesting
the trees be left alive, in place, and maintained in good health until the lawsuit is resolved forAppeal #24493.
In the City’s “Belonging in Bozeman” Plan, Goal 3 under Community Resiliency includes,
“ensure investments in the urban tree canopy are equitably distributed across neighborhoods.”Midtown is rapidly losing its urban tree canopy.
In addition, I request that in the upcoming NCOD update, the demolition application criteria is
updated to better prohibit demolition by neglect.I also believe that our city is negligent in its responsibility to citizens and the environment by
not requiring developers to salvage salvageable material from all buildings they plan todemolish instead of filling our landfills with usable materials. The taxpayers will pay to have
the landfill expanded, while the developers who are required by law in other states to salvagebefore demolishing, save millions by dumping entire, unsalvaged buildings into our
comparatively inexpensive landfill ($50/ton compared to $800/ton in the state of Washington.Thank you for your consideration,
Wren Kilian
