Dear folks at the city in all your titles, jobs and positions,
I live down the street from the proposed Guthrie, as many of you know. If we had clear
regulations and rules it would have saved all of us time and money. However, the rules andregulations we residents want, are stronger, regarding historic preservation. We do NOT want
rules and regulations that green light the demolition of our neighborhoods in favor of the taxrevenue it would provide for the city via density. I know all of the reasons we are supposed to
roll over for the future luxury apartments within walking distance of Main Street and they arenot good long term solutions for housing or the historic nature of Bozeman. Long term
solutions involve city owned housing and historic districts that maintain a sense of place. Anywhere USA, which is what the new buildings are starting to look like, will not bring the
tourist dollars to future residents nor create communities that continue to reinvest inthemselves. The UDC was meant to be a moment when we envisioned a city with distinct
neighborhoods and central nodes. I didn’t see that happen. It’s never to late but this is NOTthe moment to loosen or change regulations regarding the core neighborhoods which are
desirable for the very reason that they are unique and historic. Make the NCOD truly effectivein preserving these parts of town and the desirable nature of their locations will fan outwards
with thoughtful stewardship. Thank you for your time and attention to this deeply personal matter. This is not tax money
for the future. It’s our homes, neighbors and lived experience.
