I support special elections to fill vacancies on the Bozeman City and Gallatin County
Commissions. Vacancies by appointment of sitting commissioners subvert the
democratic process, replacing free elections with cronyism.
The occasional expense of holding a special election at $100K is 0.45% (less than
1/2 of one percent) of the $220.5 million Bozeman City Commission's 2026 budget.
It's the cost of doing business.
If you're going to sit on the city commission or the Bozeman City Study Commission,
do the job right. Let the voters who elected you to a commission continue to do their
job. Let voters vote.
