MODIFICATIONS TO MPWSS, 7TH EDITION, AND ANY ADDENDUMS. THE
MPWSS GENERAL CONDITIONS, AND SUPPLEMENTARY CONDITIONS
ARE INCORPORATED BY REFERENCE.
2) THE LOCATION OF EXISTING WATER LINES, SEWERS, TANKS,
CULVERTS AND OTHER UTILITIES AS SHOWN ARE APPROXIMATE.
CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY THE LOCATION AND DEPTH OF THESE
FACILITIES AS NECESSARY TO MAKE CONNECTIONS TO OR TO
EXCAVATE ADJACENT TO THESE FACILITIES. THE ENGINEER MAY
REQUIRE THE CONTRACTOR TO EXPOSE EXISTING WATER AND SEWER
LINES TO ESTABLISH THE EXACT LOCATION OF THESE UTILITIES.
3) UNDERGROUND UTILITY LOCATIONS ARE APPROXIMATE AND ARE
NOT TO BE CONSIDERED COMPLETE. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY
THE LOCATION OF ALL BURIED UTILITIES PRIOR TO BEGINNING
CONSTRUCTION. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROTECT ALL EXISTING
UTILITY LINES DURING CONSTRUCTION. ALL UTILITY LINES DAMAGED
DURING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES SHALL BE REPAIRED AT THE
CONTRACTOR'S EXPENSE. OTHER UNDERGROUND UTILITIES MAY
EXIST, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL HAVE ALL UTILITIES MARKED BY THE
UTILITY COMPANY AND/OR ONE-CALL LOCATORS. CALL BEFORE YOU
DIG. 1-800-424-5555
4) CONSTRUCTION OF PUBLIC INFRASTRUCTURE (WATER, SEWER AND
CITY STREETS) AND 4" AND LARGER FIRE/WATER SERVICES SHALL BE
INSPECTED, TESTED, AND CERTIFIED BY THE DESIGN ENGINEER.
CONSTRUCTION OF THESE FACILITIES SHALL BE CONDUCTED DURING
NORMAL WORKING HOURS. NOTIFY DESIGN ENGINEER A MINIUMUM OF
48 HOURS PRIOR TO STARTING CONSTRUCTION OF THESE FACILITIES.
5) NOTIFY ENGINEER OF ANY DISCREPANCIES WITH THE PLANS AND
THE ENGINEER WILL PROVIDE A REPRESENTATIVE FOR FIELD
VERIFICATION. THE ENGINEER CAN BE REACHED AT:

6) THE CIVIL SITE WORK IS PART OF A LARGER PROJECT INVOLVING
OTHER TRADES WITHIN OR ADJACENT TO THE SITE. THE CIVIL SITE
CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE WITH OTHER TRADES TO ALLOW
THEM SUFFICIENT ACCESS TO THEIR WORK.
7) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PREPARE AND OBTAIN A CITY OF
BOZEMAN STREET CUT PERMIT FOR WORK WITHIN EXISTING
RIGHTS-OF-WAY. CONTRACTOR TO PAY ALL FEES AND PROVIDE
INSURANCE AND BONDING REQURIED WITH THE PERMIT. ALL WORK
AND RESTORATION WITHIN EXISTING RIGHTS-OF-WAY SHALL BE DONE
IN ACCORDANCE WITH THIS PERMIT.
8) PUBLIC INFRASTRUCTURE SHALL HAVE A (2)-YEAR WARRANTY.
CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE A (2)-YEAR MAINTENANCE BOND WITH
THE DEVELOPER/ OWNER UPON ACCEPTANCE OF PUBLIC
INFRASTRUCTURE BY THE CITY. MAINTENANCE BOND SHALL BE EQUAL
TO 20% OF THE ACTUAL COST OF THE PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS. THE
CITY OF BOZEMAN SHALL BE NAMED AS DUAL OBLIGEE ON THE BOND.
GENERAL CIVIL NOTES
1) WATER, SEWER AND STORM DRAINAGE UTILITY IMPROVEMENTS
SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH MONTANA PUBLIC
WORKS STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS (MPWSS), 7TH EDITION, AND CITY
OF BOZEMAN MODIFICATIONS TO MPWSS, 7TH EDITION, AND ANY
ADDENDUMS. THE MPWSS GENERAL CONDITIONS, AND
SUPPLEMENTARY CONDITIONS ARE INCORPORATED BY REFERENCE.
2) WATER, FIRE, AND SEWER SERVICE IS TO BE MAINTAINED FOR
EXISTING USERS IN THE PROJECT VICINITY. NOTIFY USERS IF ANY
TEMPORARY SHUTDOWN IS REQUIRED. IF SHUTDOWNS EXCEED 4
HOURS, PROVIDE TEMPORARY SERVICE.
3) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY THE CITY OF BOZEMAN WATER
DEPARTMENT A MINIMUM OF 48-HOURS PRIOR STARTING WORK AND
PRIOR TO ANY WATER OR SEWER CONNECTIONS TO THE CITY SYSTEM.
ANY EXISTING OR NEW VALVES WHICH CONTROL THE CITY OF
BOZEMAN'S WATER SUPPLY SHALL BE OPERATED BY CITY OF
BOZEMAN PERSONNEL ONLY.
4) PIPE-LINE BEDDING TO BE TYPE 1 FROM 4" BELOW THE PIPE TO 6"
ABOVE THE PIPE. PIPE-LINE BACKFILL SHALL BE TYPE A BELOW
STREET ROW, ON-SITE PARKING LOTS, AND SIDEWALKS. TYPE B
BACKFILL MAY BE USED FOR STORM DRAINS OUTSIDE OF ROADS AND
PARKING LOTS.
5) CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTAINING A WATER MAIN
AND SEWER MAIN SEPARATION OF 10 FEET HORIZONTALLY EDGE TO
EDGE AND 18 INCHES VERTICALLY AT CROSSINGS. CONTRACTOR IS
RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTAINING A WATER SERVICE AND SEWER
SERVICE SEPARATION OF 10 FEET HORIZONTALLY EDGE TO EDGE AND
18 INCHES VERTICALLY AT CROSSINGS. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL
FIELD VERIFY LOCATIONS OF ADJACENT WATER OR SEWER MAINS TO
CONFIRM SEPARATION HAS BEEN MET. PER MPWSS NO. 02660-2.
6) NO TREES SHALL BE PLANTED WITHIN 10 FEET OF WATER AND
SEWER MAINS OR WITHIN 10 FEET OF WATER AND SEWER SERVICES.
7) ADJUST MANHOLE AND VALVE BOX COVERS PER CITY OF BOZEMAN
MODIFICATIONS TO MPWSS DRAWINGS NO. 02213-1 AND 02213-2.
GENERAL UTILITY NOTES
WATER SYSTEM NOTES
9) ALL OFF-SITE CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE CONDUCTED FROM WITHIN
EXISTING EASEMENTS.
10) CONTRACTOR SHALL CONDUCT WORK IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE
STORM WATER POLLUTION PREVENTION PLAN (SWPPP) AND CITY OF
BOZEMAN STORMWATER PERMIT.
11) CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE A TRAFFIC CONTROL PLAN TO THE
CITY FOR ANY STREET CLOSURES ASSOCIATED WITH THE PROJECT.
12) A GEOTECHNICAL EVALUATION HAS BEEN CONDUCTED BY IMEG.
COPIES OF THE REPORT ARE AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST.
13) UNLESS OTHERWISE SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS, STRAIGHT
GRADES SHALL BE RUN BETWEEN ALL FINISH GRADE ELEVATIONS
AND/OR FINISH CONTOUR LINES SHOWN.
14) ALL FILLS SHALL BE ENGINEERED EXCEPT FOR FILLS LESS THAN
18-INCHES IN DEPTH WHICH ARE LOCATED OUTSIDE THE PUBLIC
RIGHT-OF-WAY, BUILDING PADS, PARKING LOTS OR OTHER AREAS TO
BE IMPROVED. ENGINEERED FILLS SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED IN LIFTS
NO GREATER THAN 8-INCHES OVER APPROVED SUBGRADE. EACH LIFT
SHALL BE COMPACTED PER GEOTECHNCIAL REPORT SPECIFICATIONS.
IF NO REPORT IS AVAILABLE EACH LIFT SHALL BE COMPACTED TO 95%
OF THE MAXIMUM DRY DENSITY AT PLUS OR MINUS 2 PERCENTAGE
POINTS OF OPTIMUM MOISTURE CONTENT PER ASTM D-698 TEST
METHOD (STANDARD PROCTOR). CONTRACTOR TO PROVIDE
COMPACTION TEST RESULTS TO OWNER.
15) CONTRACTOR SHALL TAKE PRECAUTIONS TO PREVENT DAMAGE
TO EXISTING PAVEMENT WHICH IS TO REMAIN IN PLACE. ANY DAMAGE
TO EXISTING PAVEMENT OUTSIDE OF PROJECT LIMITS SHALL BE
REPAIRED AT THE CONTRACTORS EXPENSE. SAWCUT ALL EXISTING
PAVEMENT EDGES AND TACK PRIOR TO PLACING NEW PAVEMENT.
16) CONTRACTOR TO PERFORM MISCELLANEOUS GRADING TO
PROVIDE GRADUAL TRANSITIONS BETWEEN NEW AND EXISTING
GRADES.
17) NON-SURFACED AREAS DISTURBED DURING CONSTRUCTION
SHALL BE RESTORED TO PLANNED GRADE AND PREPARED FOR
SEEDING AND SEEDED. NON-SURFACED AREAS WITHIN OR ADJACENT
TO NEW GRADING SHALL BE GRADED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE
GRADING PLAN AND PREPARED FOR SEEDING AND SEEDED.
CONTRACTOR TO CONTROL WEEDS IN DISTURBED AREAS DURING
CONSTRUCTION.
1) OWNER TO PROVIDE STAKING OF PUBLIC STREETS AND UTILITIES
UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE LICENSED SURVEYOR. GPS MACHINE
CONTROL TO BE UTILIZED FOR SITE AND SUBGRADE GRADING. CAD
FILE AND FINISHED GRADE SURFACE TO BE PROVIDED TO
CONTRACTOR.
2) STREET STAKING SHALL CONSIST OF GRADED OFFSETS TO TOP
BACK OF CURB AT BEGINNINGS AND ENDS OF CURVES, GRADE
BREAKS, DRIVEWAYS, AND 50' STATIONS ON TANGENTS. NON GRADED
POINTS TO BE PROVIDED AT PED RAMP LOCATIONS.
3) WATER LINE STAKING SHALL CONSIST OF 20' GRADED OFFSETS AT
FITTINGS, VALVES, AND AT 50' STATIONS. 2 GRADED OFFSETS TO BE
PROVIDED AT HYDRANTS AND SERVICE END CAPS.
4) SEWER SERVICE STAKING SHALL CONSIST OF 2 GRADED OFFSETS
AT MANHOLES AND 20' OFFSETS FOR SERVICE LINES AT RIGHT OF
WAY.
5) STORM DRAIN STAKING SHALL CONSIST OF 2 GRADED OFFSETS AT
STRUCTURES AND CULVERTS, 20' OFFSETS FOR STUBS, AND
RETENTION BASIN FOOTPRINT.
6) ADDITIONAL STAKING BEYOND THIS CAN BE PROVIDED AT THE
CONTRACTORS EXPENSE.
7) CONTRACTOR TO PROVIDE STAKING FOR ON-SITE NON-PUBLIC
IMPROVEMENTS. CAD FILE AND FINISHED GRADE SURFACE TO BE
PROVIDED TO CONTRACTOR.
CONSTRUCTION STAKING
1) ANY WET TAP TO EXISTING WATER MAINS SHALL BE MADE BY THE
CITY OF BOZEMAN WATER DEPARTMENT. TAPPING TEES AND VALVES
SHALL BE FURNISHED AND INSTALLED BY THE CONTRACTOR AND THE
WET TAP MADE BY THE CITY OF BOZEMAN WATER DEPARTMENT WITH
THE COST PAID BY THE CONTRACTOR. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL
EXCAVATE THE EXISTING MAIN AT THE LOCATION TO BE TAPPED TO
CONFIRM THE APPROPRIATE PIPE DIMENSIONS PRIOR TO ORDERING
FITTINGS. THE TAPPING SLEEVE SHALL BE INSTALLED WITH THE
OUTLET SET ON THE HORIZONTAL PLANE. THE TAPPING SLEEVE SHALL
BE PRESSURE TESTED AND WITNESSED BY THE ENGINEER PRIOR TO
TAPPING BY THE CITY. A CONCRETE THRUST BLOCK SHALL BE
INSTALLED BEHIND THE TEE.
2) PROVIDE A MINIMUM OF 6.5' FEET OF COVER FOR ALL WATER PIPE
UNLESS SPECIFIED OTHERWISE. WHERE CONNECTIONS TO EXISTING
PIPE HAVE DEPTHS LESS THAN 6.5' PROVIDE 4" OF RIGID INSULATION
OVER NEW PIPE UNTIL MINIMUM DEPTH IS ACHIEVED. INSULATION
SHALL BE 60 PSI EXTRUDED POLYSTYRENE.
3) THRUST RESTRAINT AND PIPE BEDDING TO CONFORM WITH
SECTION 02221 OF MPWSS. ALL WATER VALVES TO BE RESTRAINED.
4) CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTALL ADDITIONAL FITTINGS, BLOWOFFS,
VALVES, ETC. AS MAY BE NECESSARY TO ADEQUATELY FLUSH, TEST,
AND DISINFECT THE WATER LINES AND FITTINGS.
5) INSTALL V-BIO WRAP AROUND ALL DUCTILE IRON WATER PIPE AND
FITTINGS.
6) WATER LINES SHALL BE DISINFECTED ACCORDING TO CITY OF
BOZEMAN MODIFICATIONS TO MPWSS 02660 AND AWWA C651.
7) WATER LINES SHALL BE PRESSURE TESTED ACCORDING TO MPWSS
02660 AND AWWA C600, TEST PRESSURE TO BE 200 PSI.
8) CONTRACTOR TO COMPLETE APPLICATIONS FOR CITY WATER
SERVICE PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION.
9) FIRE SERVICE LINE TO BE TESTED AND FLUSHED IN ACCORDANCE
WITH NFPA 24. TEST PRESSURE TO BE 200 PSI, AND FLUSHING FLOW
TO BE 10 FT/SEC.
10) CONTRACTOR TO PROVIDE A COMPLETED "CONTRACTORS
MATERIAL AND TEST CERTIFICATE FOR UNDERGROUND PIPING" TO
THE CITY ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT FOR FIRE SERVICE LINES.
SANITARY SEWER SYSTEM NOTES
1) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY THE CITY OF BOZEMAN AND THE
ENGINEER A MINIMUM OF 48-HOURS PRIOR TO BEGINNING ANY
SANITARY SEWER UTILITY WORK.
2) TRENCH EXCAVATION AND PIPE BEDDING TO CONFORM WITH
SECTION 02221 OF MPWSS.
3) PROVIDE A MINIMUM OF 4 FEET OF COVER FOR ALL SANITARY
SEWER MAINS AND 3 FEET OF COVER FOR ALL SANITARY SEWER
SERVICES UNLESS SPECIFIED OTHERWISE.
4) UPON SUCCESSFUL LEAKAGE TESTING OF SEWER MAINS,
MANHOLES, AND SERVICES WITHIN THE PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY,
CONTRACTOR TO VIDEO GRAVITY SEWER MAINS. PROVIDE VIDEO TO
THE ENGINEER FOR REVIEW.
1) SURVEY CONDUCTED BETWEEN JULY 2021 AND AUGUST 2022.
UNDERGROUND UTILITY LINES ARE FROM ONE-CALL UTILITY TICKET
#21158841 THESE SHOULD BE CONSIDERED APPROXIMATE. WATER

MAIN LINE.
**CONTRACTOR SHALL ESTABLISH A ROLLING PATTERN EARLY IN THE PAVEMENT PROCESS BY TAKING A TEST FOR EVERY PASS AND RECORDING THE PERCENT OF MAXIMUM DENSITY. AT A MINIMUM, THAT PATTERN SHALL BE MAINTAINED THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE PROJECT.
