I am a resident of Gallatin County, but not of Bozeman, so I may not be able to comment. If I can, here are
a few points:
1. Local governments and governments in general are more involved in our daily lives. How many
commissioners did the City of Bozeman have 20-30 years ago. I would think they need more because in
creating more government activity and the growth of Bozeman, it justifies more commissioners which I
think should continue to be part-time.
A question. Why aren’t the mayor and deputy mayor voting during city meetings. They are city-wide
elected members of the city government.
2. The deputy mayor/mayor style is effective because having a period of two years for the deputy mayor to
learn his future job as mayor is a fabulous idea. It is easy to profess your wonderful ideas on the campaign
trail, but reality is often limiting. Are the responsibilities of the mayor and deputy mayor spelled out?
Staying with this model is better, but educating the public is one of the responsibilities of town government.
If the public doesn’t understand it, it is because they are not educated.
