If my experience is widespread, that could account for your low rate of input. I think that we should do away with the two year deputy mayor idea. When the public elects amayor, they likely do so because there are immediate issues they think their electee will take appropriate action on. Having to wait two years for this desired outcome is unacceptable. Irealize the electee is on the City Commission and has at least a vote on issues but not as much influence as the Mayor. Also if an electee is chosen based on his/her campaign rhetoric thereis an added influence of public sentiment that should be addressed in a timely manner. I would like to see Commissioners elected to represent definite districts. This would work toward both an enhanced relationship between citizens and the Commissioner but also moreaccountability to the people who elected them. In the past, most Commissioners have lived in the higher end portion of the city. This leavesthe rest of citizens feeling that the Commission does not understand their concerns. This concern may also reflect a need to reconsider the rate of payment for Commissioners. Maybewe should regard the post as a full time assignment and raise the pay so more people could run for the office. I have either watched or attended the early meetings of the Study Commission. Myimpression was of an endless blathering on about inconsequential subjects rather than getting to any substantial questions of city government. I have stopped watching. Hopefully I will tryagain on Feb. 5, conceding that later meetings may have become more focused.
