Dear Bozeman City Commissioners; I am writing to ask that you seriously consider and pass a Bozeman City for CEDAW Ordinance. The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination AgainstWomen treaty adopted by the United Nations in 1979 and implemented around the world in 1981 ensures the protection of women in cases of discrimination, abuse, harassment, inequityand a myriad of other areas. Isn’t it time our city adopts this serious measure to make sure that gender discrimination in areas of pay equity, violence, healthcare, housing, employment and safety is eliminated onceand for all? This is clearly the next step to ensure safety for all gender identities in Bozeman to make our city a welcoming home for all. In working with the HEART Initiative at MSU, I know that human trafficking indeed exists inour community. Sexual and labor Human Trafficking victims need to know that they have recourse and protection when reporting these crimes, and that they will not face gender orracial discrimination in our city’s law enforcement process. Survivors need to be able to access affordable and trauma informed resources and housing to successfully escapeperpetrators. A Bozeman for CEDAW Ordinance guarantees that Bozeman will work to provide inclusive services, train city employees and law enforcement in non- discrimination practices andpolicies, and provide fair housing and employment. Now is the time! Please add this Ordinance to our city’s 2026 agenda and set it into law! Thank you,Betsy Danforth 1021 South Tracy Ave.Bozeman, MT 59715 bemi1021@gmail.com406.600.2032
