In 2026, Don’t Just Improve Yourself -Improve Montana Two volunteer opportunities that turn your vision into impact. READ IN APP Over the next couple of weeks, I know a lot of people are taking time away form their typical day-to-day grind to spend more time with family and friends. I also know a lot of people take this time of year to reflect on what they are going to do in the upcoming year. How they are going to spend their time and share their talents to improve themselves and their communities. As you meet with family and friends consider how you and your loved ones can help others. As you think about what you are going to do in the new year, think DEC 22 about how YOU can actually improve Montana. I ask that you think about the very real, tangible impact you can make in your own community by volunteering (either with Disability Rights Montana or another group that makes Montana a great place to live). I have two opportunities for volunteers here at Disability Rights Montana. 1. If you live in the Helena area and you have a disability, you could lead the creation of community, friendship, and advocacy by joining our new Event Committee. We need people of all ages and walks of life to join this committee to help us plan events and programs for the new Disability Community Center we are launching. What do people need and want? What could bring people together to support each other as individuals and build connectivity, culture, and political power? If you live in this community, you have the answers (even if you don’t know it yet). If you want to learn more about the community center check out last week’s newsletter, linked at the bottom of this page. Event Committee 2. If you are anywhere in Montana and have knowledge and skills around buildings — how they are built and maintained, how people relate to them, what they mean to our communities — I could use your vision, planning, and construction expertise in our newly created Facility Committee that will help us in planning the infrastructure side of the new Disability Community Center. Facility Committee Thank you for considering volunteering with Disability Rights Montana or any other group you think could use your time and talents in the new year. Culture is not built upon grand gestures, it is the product of each of us doing small actions with what we have, where we are, each and every day. In solidarity, David David Carlson, J.D.
