HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-09-25 Public Comment - W. Claeys - Tenant's Right to CouncilCustomer Submission #CS-25-1475 Open Created on November 30, 2025 by Wendy Claeys Description Please realize that if we (as the owner of three rentals in Bozeman) give someone a notice of eviction, it is only due to their violation of our rental contract. It is completely unfair to subsize their attorney fees unless you are also willing to subsidize ours. I am happy to discuss this with you. Montana rental laws are written to protect tenants. This is not the City's jurisdiction. All that would be accomplished is landlords would go months with no rent. Why is that fair to us? We have never (in 30 years) given a tenant an eviction notice. If we did, it would be because the tenant caused the problem. Thank you. Mike Maas 12/08/2025 09:01am Email Submission Received Good morning, Wendy, Unfortunately, I did not see this in time to reach out prior to the Commission meeting last week. However, if you would like this considered at a public comment before their final adoption of the Ordinance, we can accomplish that for you. We always like to check with anyone that didn't submit directly as a public comment before sharing because all information provided becomes public information retained permanently. Would you like us to pass this along to the Commission knowing that information? Thanks, 12/9/25, 1:51 PM about:blank about:blank 2/4 -- Mike Maas, MPA| City Clerk City of Bozeman | 121 N. The issue here is the city siding with tenants against landlords and potentially creating months of tenants living rent free after breaking the rules of their rental agreement, which triggered their eviction notice. It is NOT the city's job to side against tax paying property owners and the city should consider the legal liability of taking this stance. Landlords are business people who require the means of removing tenants who break rules and/or don't pay rent. I am retired and this rent is my income. Thanks for reaching out to me. I greatly appreciate you!
