City Commission,
Please do not revise the code to allow 90 foot tall buildings in B-3.
There already is an over-supply of non-affordable new apartment buildings in downtown Bozeman, as evidenced by
most of them offering one to two months free rent just to get tenants. More housing, but not affordable for
Bozeman’s workforce.
In addition, the Commission should reconsider the so-called “wisdom” of permitting buildings in excess of 70 feet
in exchange for a token number of “affordable” units or cash in lieu.
There are better ways to promote more affordable housing, including liberal permitting for duplexes, ADUs, smaller
lots and small houses. These approaches are being implemented in other jurisdictions and pursuant to Montana law,
should be allowed and encouraged in Bozeman.
Allowing more ugly big box buildings in Bozeman is no solution and will continue to destroy the charm and
livability of our lovely town.
Respectfully submitted,
Leslie A. Taylor
