Housing Coordinating Team Meeting
Dec.11 at 10 a.m.
The Montana Board of Housing, administratively attached to the Montana Department
of Commerce, invites affordable housing developers and interested stakeholders to
attend the Dec. 11 Housing Coordinating Team meeting to learn about the Board’s
upcoming competitive spring application round for its multifamily loan programs.
This meeting will cover the application process for the Growth and Opportunity
Housing Trust approved with last session’s HB 924. With a new competitive funding
round scheduled for spring 2026, this session will help understand how to apply and
what makes an application competitive. A round robin discussion will be held, giving
participants a chance to share updates and insights from across the state.
Additionally, the meeting will cover the Board’s updated and combined Multifamily
Loan Program Guidelines, proposed spring 2026 competitive application round
timeline, estimated funds available for each program and will conclude with a question-
and-answer session. The following loan programs will be discussed:
Growth and Opportunity Housing – Housing Montana Fund (New)
Growth and Opportunity Housing – Multifamily Homes Program (previously Coal
Trust Multifamily Homes Program)
MBOH – Housing Montana Fund
MBOH – Multifamily Loan Program
House Bill 924 establishing the Growth and Opportunity Housing fund provides for
ongoing, statutory appropriations for affordable housing purposes for the first time in
Montana’s history. The Montana Board of Housing is eager to work with partners to
deploy these funds to benefit communities and low- and moderate-income families
across the state.
Administrative Rules to implement HB 924 were adopted on Nov. 7 and can be found
here. It is recommended that attendees review the adopted Administrative Rules prior
to the meeting and come prepared with any follow-up questions or project scenarios.
While Board staff may not be able to answer all questions during the meeting,
developers with additional project-specific questions can contact Jason Hanson,
multifamily programs manager, at jason.hanson@mt.gov. Additionally, all potential
applicants will be asked to schedule a pre-application meeting with Board staff before
the application goes live.
