Hello Commissioners, There's been a lot of words spoken and ink spilled about Right to Counsel, but at he end of the
day, this is a matter of fairness. Justice should not depend on one's ability to afford a lawyer. Bozeman's growing
pains are clear results of the bifurcation of our city between haves and have nots. And when it comes to having a
lawyer, the statistics speak for themselves. Less than 1 in 10 tenants in eviction court in Bozeman have historically
had legal representation, while 4 out of 5 landlords go to court with their own lawyer. Such a clear power imbalance
hands the corporate landlords that have carved up our city like Thanksgiving turkey carte blanche to abuse tenants
who know that the legal system is pay-to-win and that entering into court without legal representation is futile, no
matter the merits of their case. You can level the playing field. You were put in office with a mandate to protect
Montanans. I urge you to vote yes for Right to Counsel.
