Dear Bozeman City Commission
My name is Eric Shelton. I live in Bozeman, and I'm a member of Bozeman Tenants United. I have lived in Bozeman for 12 years. I have found Bozeman to be a pleasant place to live,
but I am concerned with the changes I am seeing. Rising costs make it difficult for manyworking class individuals to afford a decent place to live and a difficulty handling the costs of
life's occasional expenses. As I began to learn of the unfair practices of some landlords andhow they create untenable hardships on individuals who have little financial or legal capacity
to get protection and fair treatment. I feel morally obligated to speak up for others. Whenlandlords are financially able to get legal representation to an unfair degree over tenants, it just
adds to hardships that many people are living under. The law should provide equal rights andprotections to all citizens regardless of financial or social status. The Right to Counsel
Ordinance is a step in the right direction to provide a balanced legal representation for alltenants in Bozeman.
I encourage you to pass a strong Right to Counsel Ordinance for everyone in Bozeman soeveryone may be equally protected under the law and feel secure in their homes.
Eric Shelton
