Dear City Commissioners,
Please amend to UDC (38.410.010 B) to strengthen the protections for our urban forest. Inparticular, existing established street trees are a valuable asset and contribute greatly to the
quality of Bozeman's environment.
They should be protected to the MAXIMUM extent possible. Mature established trees havesurvived drought, heavy snow, vandalism, grass trimmers, stake strangling, and many other
abuses.
Street trees provide welcome shade, carbon storage, noise buffering, and natural habitat toname a few benefits. According to AI, the average urban tree lives between 19 and 28 years.
We can't afford to take out the ones that have beaten those odds. They are treasures. Bozemanshould be a Tree City USA. We should have a Heritage Tree program.
Thank you for your consideration and hard work.
Respectfully, Mary Keck
