Dear Mayor Cunningham and Commissioners,
I’m writing to strongly support the Bozeman Tree Coalition’s recommendations for the UDC
Update–2025. Bozeman is losing mature trees and native vegetation at a pace we can’treplace, and with public input removed from site plan review, our codes must provide real,
enforceable protections.
Strengthening 38.410.010.B to require preservation “to the maximum extent possible,” andreinstating the original language in 38.740.090, are simple, fair changes that align with
Bozeman’s adopted plans. These wording choices matter—they protect existing mature trees,neighborhood character, and the natural beauty that defines this community.
Thoughtful development and strong environmental standards can coexist. I urge you to adopt
the BTC’s recommendations and uphold the stewardship Bozeman residents expect anddeserve.
